Probably one of the best things to do while in Cairns besides scuba diving. Explore the rainforest via rail and make your way into Kuranda from Cairns. I went on this years ago during my trip but it still remains one of the coolest things to do while down under. The railroad dates back to 1882 and was finished in 1891. The train will take you to the village in Kuranda where you can explore, shop, eat and drink. It's worth the trip!

My sister and I enjoyed the scenic ride up to Kuranda. We sat on the right side of the train and got great views of the gorges, the river, and waterfalls. We also met a "grey nomad" couple. Grey nomads are retirees who live in motorhomes and tour Australia for months at a time.
