If I were Kuwaiti, I'd shoot the Lonely Planet writer who listed this as a highlight of my country. The museum is a good place to burn time but certainly not distinctive or unique to Kuwait. Fascinating look at the history of the first Gulf War. The exhibits aren't high quality but they are educational and entertaining. The head of Saddam Hussein's statue from Bagdad is on display and the museum curator is very proud of it. 1 KWD to enter. You may have to wait a few minutes for an English tour / demonstration. The "old" souq has certainly been modernized. Don't visit for history. Visit for a great glimpse of local life. The people watching is incredible and, despite the newness, this souq manages to retain an authenticity that is lacking in many others in the region. Harder to manage in English. We were the only Westerners here when we visited.
