The Hyatt did not disappoint in any way shape or form. Nice crisp room, great bathroom, great bar, great food for a night in but make a reservation. There is a busy temple next door. Getting to the train station or Gion is a little cumbersome with aout 9000 yen taxi in each direction. After a night in a hotel ...

Backpackers Hostel K's House in Kyoto is the nicest hostel I've ever stayed in. Clean, quiet, friendly staff. The common area is nice a spacious and good for meeting people. They also have a vending machine for beer. I felt safe traveling alone, and I would definitely come back if I'm ever in Kyoto.

Are you looking for something centrally located? Well this place is about as centrally located as one can get. Yes, the hotel is in the middle of the train station, but fear not as noise is not a factor. In fact, it's about as quiet as any hotel I have ever stayed in. This property is large and has the ...

Our stay at the Hiiragiya Bekkan in Kyoto was THE romantic highlight of our Honeymoon! I had dreamed of staying at a Kyoto Ryokan (historic Japanese Inn) for decades, since reading Japanese Inn by Oliver Statler... I found the Japanese Guest Houses website (with its in-depth, illustrated guide to staying in a Ryokan for clueless Westerners!), and thus websites for ...

I stayed at K's the entire week I was in Kyoto. I was in a mixed dorm for six people. The room was small but clean, airconditioned and had storage lockers. If you want a traditional ryokan experience, it doesn't get more authentic than this- tatami mats, communal baths, slippers and elaborate kaiseki dining (delicious!)... Breakfast was my favorite, multi-course fish dishes. The couple in charge is incredibly hospitable and provides the homiest environment possible. There is a beautiful bridge/ waterfall koi pond to take you away to another world.

This is absolutely my favorite place to stay in Kyoto. Rooms are basic and Umemura-san does not serve dinner; however, the property is incredibly charming and is on one of the most picturesque streets in the city. This is one of those places you don't really want to tell people about because you fear never being able to get a ...

Machiya, traditional Japanese 'townhouse'. We stayed in a two-bed machiya. Tastefully refurbished with modern amenities. Off the beaten track, in a really nice area that's got lots of nice eateries and bars, where the locals hang out. Service is great. Staff speak English very well, and they offer recommendations on restaurants and places to go. Ikebana to welcome guests, a ...

This is possibly the best hotel I've ever stayed in. The room itself is a combination of Western and Japanese style and luxuries, with big best and tatami mat lounge area, cedar baths and rainforest shower. But the best thing was the service from the front desk staff. They went above and beyond the call of duty. I would recommend ...
