A beautiful town on the north coast of Northern Cyprus, also called Girne. It is quite popular with tourists, but does not take away the charm of the town and its gorgeous harbor of yachts and fishing boats. The narrow hilly streets wind there way up the hillside from the old harbor. The enormous walls of the Girne Castle dominates the eastern part of the old down, on the waterfront.

Kyrenia is known as Girne to the Turks who live there. It's located on the coast of Northern Cyprus as the base of the Finger Mountains. The climate is incredibly warm and sunny. Cyprus is an isle of citrus orchards and beautiful villas. Girne has a number of historic sites, including Girne Castle, St. Hilarion Castle and Bellepais Abbey, all of which are left over from the time of the crusades.

Down on the Girne waterfront you will much the same Turkish restaurants, bars and clubs that you find in cities like Bodrum and Antalya. The Turkish language and lira are used here. The Turkish army maintains a strong presence. It's not really a reason to fear but understand that you are in a country that only Turkey officially recognizes.
