I’m hovering between three and four stars, because there were some really cool parts of La Bodega Negra, and some that could have been even cooler.
First off, the DJ was fabulous. The entire dinner was punctuated with comments of “oh, I love this song” and “great choice”… in a place where the music is loud, you at least want it to be great.
The service is nice, because our server was certainly friendly, but she forgot a few things and was hard to get a hold of… most restaurants are pretty attentive, so it felt weird that there were times where the meal didn’t flow that much.
That being said, we got in and out super fast! We had a 10pm reservation and were fed and happy by 10:45, though we sat for another half hour enjoying ourselves, the conversation and the last of our drinks.
Speaking of, they make great cocktails. I tried the Diablo, which was smooth and fruity and light and probably just as wily as its namesake. The Tijuana Whore I sipped from my friend was also good, definitely the best tabasco cocktail I’ve ever had.
Our food was good, though the portions are really small and very highly priced. When the server said we should order 4-5 each, I knew my wallet couldn’t handle it, so I split a few things and managed to feel full but not too full.
Overall, it was a cool experience. Definitely a fun Tequila Tuesday, and somewhere I’d heard a lot about. Getting to dine in the “sex shop” which really is a cozy underground lair was a neat experience, and I’m excited to try the new restaurant next week!Recommended for:

Designed like a sex shop from the outside, this is a great restaurant (South American food).
Very cool atmosphere underground. Definitely go to the one that takes reservations. (There's also a cafe across but that is not as good)
Splash-the-cash type of place so share the plates!Recommended for:
