Lafayette Square is the second oldest park in New Orleans, Louisiana and was designed in 1788 by Don Carlos Trudeau, general surveyor of Louisiana under the Spanish Crown.. The Square was named after Gilbert du Motier, marquis de La Fayette, a French aristocrat and general who fought on the American side in the American Revolutionary War.
We stopped in and enjoyed Lafayette Square on a recent Sunday as part of a Blues and BBQ festival. It was a fun crowd, 2 stages, a bunch of booths, and some killer BBQ equipment. The Square seemed a little buried under all of that, but the character of this attractive and historical public square remained to be seen.
