- Lake HayesFirst to ReviewDec 16, 2012
I always wanted to do some hiking in New Zealand so picking a track for hiking is difficult as NZ has so many gorgeous hikes. But Lake Hayes has a beautiful light hike circuit of 8km which allows visitors to explore the entire circumference of the lake. The light hike has some steep hills and sections but most of the time very comfortable. To get to Lake Hayes, you'll need to buy a Connectabus day pass for $17 NZD per person. Then catch the route 11 bus from Queenstown and hop off at Frankton bus stop (will only take 10mins to get there). Then from Frankton catch the Route 10 bus, then ask the bus driver to drop you off at Amisfield Winery stop as the lake is adjacent to the winery. The day of our visit was very lucky as the weather was spectacular! So really enjoy the light hike and even plan to have a one hour picnic/lunch at the highest point of the lake to enjoy the stunning surroundings.
