I visited Lamma Island as a field trip with Chinese University of Hong Kong. This Island is supposedly one of the last authentic, preserved fishing villages in Hong Kong.
Although authentic, I would not say the island was well maintained. The humidity combined with the stench of garbage made me feel queasy. The brown water was filled with trash and image of a rotting mattress in the water is forever ingrained in my memory. The seafood lunch provided to us consisted of fish from said polluted water. Against my better judgement, I tried a piece of fish from my friend's plate plate and found I had to chew it at least 10 times before I could get the meat down. As we hiked along the trails, we would come across signs that read "watch out for falling boulders." I started off the morning with a sore throat in the morning and ended the night with a fever. Overall this trip made me appreciative of living in a developed area! Until never Lamma Island!Recommended for:

a fun outing from busy Hong Kong Island, Lamma is one of the outer islands of Hong Kong. Frequent ferries run here because many commute from the island. There is a beach and an opportunity to walk across the island and take a ferry from another point.Recommended for:

This is a really nice day trip, being out on the harbor provides an excellent view of the city, some of the coastal mansions that are otherwise hard to see, and the yacht harbor really highlights how much money there is in Hong Kong right now. The highlight of the trip however, is the seafood on Lamma island, fresh heaping portions of clams, fish and whatever else your heart desires. There is also a very easy walk to do with views around the island.

There's this Lamma Fisherfolk's Village at Sok Kwu Wan on Lamma Island, a showcase of the local fishing culture and the history of the fishery industry in Hong Kong. The village comprises authentic fishing junks, sampans, feeding rafts, themed folklore booths, and dwellings, as well as an open-air dragon boat bar serving traditional fisherfolk’s snacks and Chinese tea.
Good luck with your trip. Last resort is that you can rent a digital travel guide at the Airport.

To get away from the hustle and bustle of HongKong, the modern city, may I introduce to you Lamma Island, Hong Kong, the island getaway? Lamma Island is located only about a half hours ferry ride regularly serviced from Central Piers in downtown HKG. This Island was a sleepy fishing village yet now is more developed into a relaxing hippish lifestyle community. There are numerous hiking trails and of course fresh fresh fresh seafood. Yup, this is one of the places in HKG where you see your fish, you point it out, and they cook it fresh for you. A great morning(hike)/afternoon(lunch) break away from the City.

Lamma Island is gorgeous. It's not that far from Hong Kong Island by ferry. At the weekend it gets somewhat crowded with tourists but during the week it is quiet and secluded. Great for hiking.

Peaceful island with a small village atmosphere,15 minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Tsim Sa Tsui. Good street food, dim sum and even a wonderful small italian restaurant. If you earn it (30 minute walk), you'll reach remote beaches. One of my favourite places.

This area is full of ex-pacts and seafood restaurants. Great little neighbourhood that is a splendid getaway from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the city. Just a short ferry ride away from Central, the main source of transportation here are bikes as regular sized cars don't really fit on the roads.
