There’s no escaping El Arco –it’s on all the brochures, leaflets, and tourism advertising paraphernalia that almost all visitors to Los Cabos will surely get upon arriving at the airport. The image is blasted everywhere as if the city is built around it. Edgar, the concierge at the hotel we were staying at declared that you haven’t been really to Cabo if you haven’t seen the iconic Arch. That’s all the coaxing we need and so after a quick haggling for the last-minute booking, we signed on for the sunset cruise for our last night in Cabo.
We jumped into a cab in the early afternoon and headed to the Cabo San Lucas Marina where we found “No Worry’s” a bar where we checked in for the Latin party sunset cruise. The “party boat” as they call it was a big catamaran and we opted to go on the upper deck for the stellar views (and it’s also where the open bar is) and up here, is where the party really is with the D.J. playing all these great 80s music. The host is a very funny guy who reminded all of us that in case of a Titanic event, there are only enough life-vests for him and the crew and we have to throw up our arms in the ocean and scream, “I want to buy a time share” and we would get a guaranteed rescue!
The panoramic views are really breath-taking as we curve around the bay towards the Arch, past some of the most beautiful stretches of Baja beach and then we see the Arch, looming ahead and then we came closer and everyone stood in awe of the jagged natural feature which partially fills with the tide. Now we can see why the Arch is the biggest and most impressive attraction Cabo San Lucas has to offer. Pelicans, sea lions, sea, sky - this is what brought people to Cabo in the first place and it's still magical, despite all the cruise ships towering behind it. The sunset is amazing, coloring the sky for hours; and the sounds of the waves below, lapping against the catamaran providing a thrilling coda to an already memorable vacation…
