A short and sweet hike with spectacular views of Kailua Bay. The trail is well traveled, the incline is not to steep and you will reach the first pill box in no time, clime on top, sit and take it all in!

Beautiful trail that climbs the ridgeline above Lanikai! The trailhead starts across the street from the golf club on Kaelepulu. The start of the hike is a little tough - offering a very steep ascent that can be slippery after a rain - not recommended for children under 5 or people who are afraid of heights. But the views are amazing, both of the coast and the central mountains. Do this hike at sunrise or sunset for the best views.

One of my favorite hiking trails is Lanikai Pillbox Trail. It's short and takes about 10 minutes to get to the first flat platform. You'll see one of the most breath-taking views of Oahu. The ocean water is so green and blue. You'll have views of two islands in the distance. Then another 10-15 minutes up the jagged mountainside and you'll reach one of two bunkers. You can hop on top of the bunker or try to climb inside. The trail continues on downward, but you can just sit and take in the magnificent view.

The views were astounding at sunset! If it wasn't for our moon night hike, the trip would have been easily under an hour roundtrip. It is very steep at various locations. There also seems to be "multiple" paths, but they all lead to the same place. As of the hike a week or two ago, the designated parking lot for the hike was closed.

The hike is short but steep and if you lose your footing, you might slip, but the view from the top will take your breath away! Come here half an hour before sunrise. It's spectacular!

A short hike but don't be deceived, some sports can get a little hairy. Overall it is totally worth it, the sunrise here is possibly seen best here than anywhere else on the island.

First, Kailua is a beautiful town. The neighborhood where the entrance to the trail is located is beautiful. The 360 degree views at the top are BEAUTIFUL. It's a relatively easy and short hike... around 25 minutes or so. This hike and view are probably some of my favorites on the island. You can see the Moks, the mountain range, the beach... and if you go at sunset/sunrise, be sure to sit down so as to not faint and topple down the sides from the breathtaking site of it all. Unfortunately the pillboxes (WWII bunkers) are thoroughly vandalized, but even that won't take away from the beauty--and history--of the hike.Recommended for:History Buffs
