The views from the island are lovely and the trip over is pleasant. I enjoyed it but the monastery and large buddha here are a bit too Disneyesque for me to love them.

I love Lantau island. It's amazing to me that no more than an hour away from the hectic hustle and bustle of Hong Kong is a peaceful island with a large statute perched on top of a hill. It's a wonderful place to go hiking, especially since the trails are located along the sea.Recommended for:Outdoor Enthusiasts

Great for a relaxing day away from the city, where you can do some hiking or just stroll around the monastery & village. There's a lot of greenery and views of the surrounding ocean and islands. If you're up for it, you can also climb up to the Buddha for a visit and even more views. Take the cable car up to enjoy a beautiful ride!

I didn't know places like this existed! I thought I was taken somewhere else... As I approached to the Buddha figure I couldn't blink anymore. Up on the mountain, these statues stood all around Buddha! Amazing!
