Serving inventive 'Lao-fusion' cuisine like lemongrass stuffed with minced chicken, and watermelon-and-chili granitas, Tamarind is my favorite restaurant in Luang Prabang. The menu at this small place overlooking the riverbank may not be extensive, but literally everything they do is either very good or excellent. For desert, the purple sticky rice is tops.Popular withFoodies

Scandinavian Bakery is another good place in Vientiane to relax, grab a bite to eat, and use free wifi. I had an average croissant sandwich and a chocolate-looking treat that turned out to be a rum ball. Personally I preferred Joma Bakery a few blocks away but probably haven't tried enough at either location to accurately judge the two.

If you are looking for decent western comfort food while in Vientiane, Sticky Fingers is a good choice. Quality food, tasty cocktails.

My favorite place in Vientiane for a tasty dinner in a relaxed atmosphere. The food is outstanding and showcase the chef's skill with a blade (tomato salad with cream cheese). The fresh mango pie makes the flight into Laos worthwhile. You can choose to sit on cushions or at low tables. There isn't much seating, but I've never had to ...Popular withFamiliesVegetarianFoodies

Makphet is the highest rated restaurant in Vientiane on TripAdvisor. It's often full so you might need a reservation. We got the chicken pumpkin curry, buffalo rolls, pork laab, and whiskey-marinated beef. The food was good but we have had better Lao food in town.

With a friendly staff, decent coffee, and outstanding breakfasts Morning Glory Cafe was one of my go-to morning spots during my relentlessly pleasant stay in Luang Prabang. The shady garden is a great place for relaxing, and while the wifi may not always be working, the vegetarian curries happen to be excellent. Try a breakfast sandwich on a crunchy baguette ...Popular withFoodiesVegetarian

This restaurant is currently a jewel in the rough. Heavily influenced by French cuisine, the owner and chef, Mr. Sayawouth, brings in the freshest ingredients that he finds daily and creates amazing specials. The decor is very modern, in one of the newer buildings near the Japanese bridge (no address given on the business card). If I'm not mistaken, it's ...Popular withLuxury

I didn't have dinner unfortunately at this romantic riverside cafe - only had coffee but my few minutes there was sufficient for me to admire the river view. Totally charming!

A really good french restaurant in Vientiane. I had a "steak au poivre" and it was like in France. It's expensive if you compare with prices in Laos, but for the quality of the food and thinking how much would be in other cities, it's cheap. We had a really good wine too. I didn't love the dessert though. Well ...

One of the better 'fine-dining' options in Luang Prabang, service at Blue Lagoon is attentive and polished, the atmosphere is excellent, and the food reliably good across the Lao-Thai-Continental menu. A red prawn curry here is an outstanding option, as are the Luang Prabang specialties. It rates as expensive only by comparison to other restaurants in a fabulously inexpensive town.Popular withFoodies

The fruit shakes here are really good! So are the sandwiches. Nice decor too.
