Two adults w/o kids are going to the North Island in January. We're flying into Auckland and are there for 3 days, then camping with friends near Lake Taupo for 5 days, then we have 4 days left. we won't have time to make it to Wellington, and we definitely want to see Rotorua on the way back from Taupo; what else in the North of the north Island is worth doing or seeing?
We are not as interested in beaches or treking, but would be into good restaurants, funky/artsy shops, Maori culture, live indie music, brewpubs, etc.
