Perhaps the diviest - and also my favorite - of Portland's theater pubs, the Laurelhurst Theatre is the ideal place to grab a slice and a pint and watch a second run of, well, just about anything. Unlike the Bagdad, that only shows one or two movies at a time, the Laurelhurst operates like a real theater: several screens, no special tables for your food or drinks, cheesy faded carpeting. I used to grab snacks at Nature's across the street and catch flicks like "Amores Perros" and "Y Tu Mama Tambien" for $2 a pop (probably more now) - a perfect solo date on a rainy afternoon.

I have enjoyed innumerable films at the Laurelhurst from newish movies like Pulp Fiction to Conan the Barbarian and Caddyshack II, all with a pitcher of stout and slice of cheese pizza. The theater is a classic but basic beauty, adorned with classic movie posters and the seating is awesome, especially if you can get into a row with a table for your drinkable and edible goods. After a movie and some grub, walk on over to Chopsticks next door (making sure to move your car or it will be towed) and watch some classic entertaining Karaoke. After that, take a stroll down 28th to Beulahland bar and so on until you can no longer walk... then get a taxi home.
