Lavapiés is Madrid's most genuine barrio. A cultural mixing pot, it's home to some of the best food in the city. Fancy an Indian? Look no further!
The barrio has a buzz like no other area in the city, where you can commonly find locals singing and playing music in the square.

The most international "barrio"in Madrid! Every corner have some african-turkish-asian little restaurant with delicious food! Also the most alternative bars find shelter here. Hot hot hot!

This is the ethnic side of Madrid, with lots of Indian, Latinamerican,Turkish etc bars and restaurants. You shouldn´t miss the opportunity of going to Gaudeamus café, which is one of the best bars to enjoy the rooftop views of Madrid. ; )

A great area of town that has a bad reputation for having pickpockets...but really shouldn't. I never once felt as if I had to worry about anything when I was here. I loved the fact that I could enjoy walking around the city at any time of the day or night and see things to do. This is a great, really old part of the city that has a lot to offer.

Description

Lavapiés is a central neighbourhood of the city of Madrid, centered on the Plaza de Lavapiés. It was the Jewish quarter of the city until the expulsion of the Jews from Spain in 1492, the church of San Lorenzo being built on the former site of the synagogue.
