Old fashioned restaurant and proud of it. The servers wear dated uniforms. They are known for the spinning salad and prime rib served table side. The rib was delicious, with the smallest cut more than adequate. Bring your appetite and your wallet.

The prime rib dinners here are amazing, but even better are the carvery lunches the next day.

Okay, so this is a California-based restaurant, and I have always felt weird taking visitors to Chicago to it given that there is a Chicago-based steakhouse on every other block in this area. But I have to admit, it is sooo good. The space is very old Chicago - it reminds me of Boardwalk Empire for some reason - and the servers are dressed with the apron uniform. Their famous spinning salad reminds me of the 60s. These descriptions may make it more alluring or not your cup of tea, but I think most will agree that their prime rib with the creamed spinach and creamed corn still makes a very satisfying meal.

I had a fantastic second experience here at Lawry's Prime Rib considering that my first experience at the Lawry's in LA left me with a sour taste in my mouth and an empty wallet.

For some reason this Lawry's, although very similarly styled, was a lot less stiff, more modern, and livelier than the other location. It definitely has to be the city! The location was easy to find, the service was prompt, friendly and never overbearing, and the food came out quickly. The waitress was especially detailed in describing and offering food suggestions and pairings as well as type of prime rib. I was never really a fan of prime rib until now. Delicious to the very last bite, even the areas of fat! Mmmm ...

If you're in the mood for prime rib, this is the place to be. Reservations are recommended unless you like waiting, and this IS more upscale so you would need to dress up, just a tad. It's expensive, but then again you get what you pay for and this is worth every penny.

Lawry's is THE place for prime rib. It's simply awesome. It's odd that a classic meat place originated from LA, but the second location in Chicago has been there for so long that many people assume it's a "Chicago classic" rather than from the land of silicone, celebs, and great sushi :)

Their cuts are excellent along with the tasty sides and horseradish sauce that blends perfectly into the meat. I probably have 12 lbs of undigested meat in my bowels from going their for the past 20+ years.

This is how I explain part of my weight gain to my wife. I tell her that I'm only 28 lbs over my weight in college... 40 lbs of fatness minus 12 lbs of undigested meat = 28 lbs of extra baggage

Good food, but not terribly exciting.
