Le Tour Traveler’s Rest Youth Hostel—not to be confused with Le Tour Shanghai Youth Hostel in another area of Shanghai—is everything you could reasonably hope for from a budget accommodation. The rooms are clean and well lit with the option of dormitory-style bunking, double or single rooms. The location is within easy walking distance of the metro as well as a healthy assortment of cafes and bars. Extra amenities such as the rooftop bar, access to bikes and public computers and a well-equipped gaming area make Le Tour a great option for backpackers and cost conscious travelers. So long as you are not expecting anything overly extravagant, you won’t be disappointed.

As far as hostels go, Le Tour isn’t that bad. It’s a bit tricky to find, since you can access it from 2 separate streets (its in the middle of a block) but once you find it you’re good to go. It’s in Jing’an, which seems to be a standard residential neighborhood. There are some other hotels around the corner and lots of dining options. The reception is a bit dark, but once you wander back, you see that there are a lot of common rooms and lots of natural light as well. It's good bang for your buck, and much less busy than People's Square.
