What is the leaderboard?

Leaderboards help you see the best of the best on Gogobot! And by “best of the best,” we mean members who are contributing great travel reviews and reviews, getting thanks and helpful votes, and all around helping create a more vibrant community.

Tribe Leaderboards

Tribes are communities of people who share a common travel style, e.g. luxury, backpacking. When reviewing a place, members can recommend (aka “tag”) tribes they think would enjoy that place. The tribe leaderboards show experts within the tribe based on numbers of recommendations and reviews made to that tribe, and number of helpful votes.

How do I score?

There are many ways to score and move up the leaderboard! In general, Gogobot’s scoring rules recognize and reward members who are the most helpful and engaged. As such, we may make periodic adjustments to the following scoring criteria.

Best Practices

Remember that your ranking depends not only on how many reviews you write, but also on the quality--whether people like your reviews and whether they add your recommendations to their lists. Here are some tips for boosting your ranking on the leaderboard:

  1. Write helpful reviews

Gogobot members come to look for travel advice, so it’s good to explain why or why not you like a place. Remember that abusive or irrelevant reviews, along with “junk” reviews written only to boost your ranking risk being removed (-5 points), which lowers your ranking.

  2. Make recommendations

Lots of people are asking for advice on Gogobot, so go to the places you have expertise in and start making recommendations. Once you write a review, you can attach it over and over again to lists and questions.

  3. Get your recommendations added to lists

People are more likely to add your recommendations to their lists if it’s relevant. So if someone is looking for a kid-friendly hotel for example, refrain from recommending a boutique hotel popular with honeymooners.
