Fun place to go get scuba certified. I went there on my honeymoon. Its not the best beach in Costa Rica but we were able to see an amazing amount of sea life. And when you aren't in the water the town has lots to offer. There are many exceptional great tasting restaurants and spots to pick up all sorts ...

Pull off the highway to your scenic ocean-side public beach with a private oasis feel. White sandy beaches are breath-taking but beware the riptide - swim here with caution.

This is 5 minutes walking distance from the condo front door! This beach has the least pedestrian traffic of the three beaches listed in this area. Walk to the other side of the beach and you will find a reef.

Some epic surf on the beaches right in town, it is something of an expat haven, with juice bars and yoga retreats spotting throughout town. A bit of the beaten track but worth checking out, it you want to hang out somewhere and relax on the beach for a while.

I was lucky enough to see this volcano erupting and snapped some fantastic photos. There is a hot springs area nearby with over 20 pools. Very nice end to a Costa Rican vacation. Not much else to do in town, however.

We stayed at the JW Marriott in Guanacaste. The area is nice, but the beaches are rocky. It's definitely a ways away from everything so you'll need a car. Great if you want a relaxing vacation away from everything.

Though much of the Nicoya Peninsula is overrun with American expats, and the more touristy spots like Tamarindo have seen a hefty rise in crime in recent years, there are some really beautiful beaches on the peninsula's hard to reach southern end. A small taildragger paired with the right pilot, like the Cessna 185 I shot this picture from, can ...

Let me apologize in advance for most of my reviews being 5 stars. I am taking time to review the really special places first and Playa Junquilla is on the top of the list for tranquility. If that is what you are looking for, please don't let anyone talk you out of spending a day of your precious vacation time ...
