Great service and a really unique design. This place used to be a jail and you can definitely tell. And the food at CLINK!, one of the restaurants in the hotel, is delicious (albeit a little pricey).

The Liberty is a destination for tourists and locals alike, with one of the most active bar scenes I've come across in a hotel. Every Thursday there's a fashion show, with models floating up on escalators like 1930s era synchronized swimmers emerging from a tower of water. A glass of champagne and warm, personal welcome greeted me on arrival, and helped me enjoy a poke around the lobby. The Liberty was an active prison until the 1990s, and the most interesting aspect of the hotel is the renovation they've done, transforming the former Charles Street prison into a funky bar (Alibi) and restaurant (Clink) where you sit ensconced in alcoves with iron bars, secure in the notion that unlike the former inhabitants, you'll leave when you want. I chose to sample Scampo, the Italian restaurant downstairs, and was impressed by the simple quality of the food, especially the arugula salad. The bed was super comfortable, and I loved the view my room had of the Charles River. A large bathroom with separate bath and shower and free wifi in the lobby and room kept me clean and connected. The Liberty was the most restful night's sleep I had on this visit to Boston.

I haven't stayed here - but I have gone to the bar which is a good scene. In the summer the line can be very long. The bathroom situation is also a bit weird- they give you vouchers when you leave the bar to use the restroom so you can get back in.

The Liberty is definitely the coolest hotel I've stayed at in Boston. It was literally a prison until 1990 and has been converted into a luxury hotel beautifully. It also has a great lobby, cool bar called Alibi and restaurant called Clink. The outdoor terrace is a great place to hang out at night for a drink. The rooms are nice, nothing crazy but the hotel is very popular with celebrities. I would 100% stay here again next Boston trip.Recommended for:

The Liberty Hotel is great. The hotel used to be a jail and the rooms, if you are in the original building, used to be cells. They have built an extension of new rooms, but even those are jail-themed. The rooms are modern and clean. Even if you aren't staying in the hotel, it's worth a visit. Clink, the lobby bar, is a fun place at night. Alibi is a cool club and Scampo is a good restaurant. My brother got married here and they were great hosts.

Although I haven't spent the night here yet, I've dined at Clink and had signature cocktails in the lobby bar. The Liberty was once the notorious Charles Street Jail, and it makes the most of its notorious past. Alibi, the downstairs bar is located in the jail's former drunk tank. No visit to Boston is complete without a stop at the Liberty- either for the night, for a bite or a cocktail.

Someone decided to convert a historic Boston prison into a luxury hotel...and they nailed it. Amazing...even if you don't stay there, you should drop by for a drink in the lobby. Its worth seeing firsthand. Draws a bustling evening crowd.Recommended for:

This hotel is the definition of a scene at night. As mentioned in other reviews, the hotel used to be a prison, and pretty much everything in the hotel is themed as such (the "do not disturb" hangers for the door say "solitary" instead, the restaurant in the lobby is called "the Clink", etc.). I had no idea this was a Starwood hotel until recently - so if you're a Starwood preferred member, that comes with all the normal perks.
If you want to grab a drink late at night - you won't have to go any farther than the lobby. Rooms are what you expect from Starwood: modern, nice, nothing over the top as at some other Starwoods, though.

This renovated jail made for a very nice place to stay. They surprised us with strawberries and bubbly in our room, and not a single part of the experience was lacking. Views of the river are great, rooms have lots of nice touches, and the staff were unfailingly helpful, even when they just happened to be in the elevator with us.

Swanky! We stayed here on a Friday night and the lobby was jumping with a young hip crowd. The fact that it used to be an old prison is really cool, and they've done a great job using that to create a very stylish place to stay and hang out.Recommended for:
