You would be hard pressed to find a friendlier bar in Monti. Independently owned and run by Calabrian Margherita, who never takes off her tango heels, locals and newcomers alike come here and stay longer than they planned. Their wine list is excellent as well; try the Nero di Troia.

Great Sicilian style gelateria. There are many places to have great gelato, and Ciuri Ciuri was one of the best I had! :)

Was faced with a tough decision of figuring out where to go eat one night in Rome 8 years ago (that's Roma, for locals) and had absolutely no idea, other than grabbing a travel guidebook I purchased from triple A right before the trip, and basically doing some eeeny meeny miney schmoe with random finger pointing to decide our free ...

At the aperitivo hour just before dinner, there are few places we'd rather be than Al Vino Al Vino. This great little find in Monti offers an extremely reasonably priced wine list and menu of small plates (prosciutto, cheeses, olives, etc) that are fresh and delightful.

In Rome, certain restaurants and pizzerias are "approvato" - approved. A very Italian concept, it means that they are generally accepted to be buono (good), places where you can trust that "se manja bene" (you'll eat well, with a Roman accent). Eating well is the cornerstone of life in Italy and the topic of much conversation and analysis...but why am ...

Hidden about a quarter mile behind the Colosseum, it's well worth the search to seek out this restaurant with a tiny storefront. The tables inside are cramped, so you sit very close to the next table, but it makes it easier to discuss how good the food is here. The Nerone specialty pasta is absolutely amazing. The pasta itself is ...

This wine bar just off the Via Nazionale has an amazing wine list starting from just 15 euros, and a bar menu which pairs things like swordfish carpaccio with a specific regional olive oil. The staff is knowledgable, friendly, and the atmosphere intimate.

We loved this restaurant serving classic Roman dishes when we first tried it seven years ago. Since then, we have read mixed reviews, but we had no complaints about our lunch. The food was as fresh and tasty as we recalled. The new location is bigger so the place is busier, but service from the chef’s son Aldo was as ...

Obviously there is great food all over Rome, but this place is a must go. The service and food is top notch. Vicenzo (operator) is a wonderful man who will make your trip worth coming too. We went 2 times in one week we enjoyed it so much. Things to try, Gnocchi, Carbonara and the lasagna. They usually will give ...

This gelateria was a shock. It is right by the Roman Forum on Via Cavour, so I expected it to be overpriced, touristy and lacking in quality - but it is entirely the opposite. This is my favorite gelateria in Rome when I'm looking to spend the average price for a cup of gelato, and I will often go through ...

Not the best pizza, but they serve a nice variety of slices and other items, and the workers seem to all be really sweet, old Italian ladies. They even understand a bit of English, and they are happy to help foreigners. The spot is large with both a bar area and seating space. Great place for a quick slice or ...

Some of the best gelato I've ever had, and the line of locals busting out the door shows me I might not be the only one. Highly recommended-- great, natural flavor (you can't go wrong with any!). It's a classic place, beloved by tourists and Italians alike. Plus, the men serving you gelato'll make you want to come back twice.

One of Rome's classic bars, with some of its most famous caffe. Be sure to try the crema, which is drops of coffee and sugar whipped into a frothy delight and dribbled into your coffee. Sure, it's packed, but worth it.

I've eaten here a few times and not only love the food, but the entire neighborhood itself. There are a number of great restaurants in this area, and the Taverna del Ghetto isn't any different. Their goulash is better than anything I ever had in Budapest, and the tonnarelli with artichokes was fantastic. The atmosphere is warm and homey with ...
