The show is good but I have to say the additional songs they added to the production (versus the movie) are not quite as good as the original songs from the movie. The animal costumes are spectacular, though and it's a great show to catch, especially if you got kids.

What can I say about a play based on one of my favorite Disney movies of all time? Let's just say that I started to cry the moment it began. It retains all that is great about the movie. And what an amazing cast!
The only thing I could say against it is the fact that the script/dialogues do not deviate too much from the movie. They could have made something a little more different, but my guess is that this is a Disney constraint.

Try to check out the Lion King in Las Vegas before they close later this year. I was skeptical about this musical since it came out a number of years ago, but after seeing it, I now understand what all the hype is all about. The costumes, the life-size animals, and the scenery really make the story come to life. The kids in the Lion King have really amazing voices. It's totally worth it to spend a little more to get seats up front.

we LOVED this show, although we saw it at the New Victoria on 42nd St about 8 years ago... the costumes are absolutely amazing, like magic -- on the one hand, it's not really a full costume but more like masks and props over a full-body leotard, and on the other hand they capture the essence of the animal so well, along with the choreography, that you totally forget it's dancers and actors in there. LOVED the gazelles :)
the music, of course, is phenomenal (thank you, Sir Elton John!) and we just sat there with our eyes wide and our mouths open throughout the show. don't miss it!
