Live Love Paddle rents out kayaks, tandems, and canoes for use on Town Lake. It's on the opposite side of Town Lake than Rowing Dock and some of the other rental companies, so it will be less crowded and with a different view of the Austin skyline and landscape than what you'd get if you started closer to Mopac.
The rates are very reasonable at $15 for the first hour and $10 each hour thereafter on the weekends, and $10 on the weekdays.
My only "complaint" is that they do not rent kayaks in the evening unless you're on their bat tour. They reserve all of the kayaks for a guided tour to Congress bridge to watch the bats fly out for the night from the water, a much better vantage point than the always crowded Congress bridge. I would love to rent a kayak for a leisurely ride out there to watch it with a friend or two, just to see it in a relaxing environment from under the bridge, but I completely understand why they reserve all of their kayaks for the evening tours - more business for them!
