It can’t all be about fine dining, or even casual dining. Sometimes you just need a greasy (or not so greasy) spoon to call home. I lived within walking distance of The Local Yolk for many years and loved it so much I now drive twenty minutes for the breakfasts I used to wander up the street for. Open only for breakfast and lunch, this sunny neighborhood joint knows exactly what they’re doing and boy do they pack ‘em in. My favorite: the Guacamole Jack Omelet with—if I ask them very nicely—a side of enchilada sauce. The ultimate morning after fare. Get the muffins as the side; but the biscuits are pretty nice, too. Load up on coffee. Tip your waitress well—she’s likely been there a long time and knows most of the names of the people sitting around you. Then move it out so someone else can have your table. Yolk etiquette dictates a speedy breakfast. But it’s worth it.
