This hotel is absolutely stunning. Designed to look like the real Italian seaside town of Portofino, it has a "beach front" harbor just out the back of the hotel, where you can catch the water taxi to Universal City Walk. The shops are designed like actual Italian streets, narrow and winding with a false sky painted above and light for all hours of the day.

Most charming hotel at Universal Studios it brings Italy to Florida! Not only the architecture and atmosphere but restaurants and their quality. The rooms have a good size, well decorated and clean. The staff is very kind. The room keys can be used at both parks to avoid regular lines on shows and rides!

When I first caught glimpse of the replica Italian waterfront, my initial reaction was "I love it". However, my opinion went down from there. It's a little too contrived for my taste and the contradiction of bathing suit-clad American families eating fast food outside of what appear to be Italian sidewalk cafes was too much to handle. Plus, the lobby and hallways smelled of heavy bleach. It's tastefully done and there are some really amazing pool areas to take advantage of. However, it is overall my least favorite of the three hotels on Universal Studios property.

This hotel is gorgeous!
I didn't stay here, just explored the hotel and checked out their offerings. The staff was very helpful and kind.
At the pool, I noticed that their chaise lounge chairs had cushions--it's something I had not seen at some of the other resorts in the area so it caught my eye as a nice touch.
The back Portofino Bay area is an exact replica of that in Italy. I love this area because it's very adult oriented with cafes, wine bar and shops. You can get a water taxi from this area which will take you to Universal's Citywalk.
It did seem a bit quiet though as the younger set tend to prefer the Hard Rock (as told to me by the Concierge). If I were looking for an adult escape, I would consider this resort. In the grand scheme of pricing for Universal resorts, this is the highest price, Hard Rock is next and then Royal Pacific as the least expensive.
