I loved that this hotel is dog friendly. When you go to your room there's a little dog dish and dog treat waiting for your four legged friend.
I loved that this hotel is right on the beach.
It's walking distance (a nice stroll with the dog) to the piers.
It's near some fun stuff.
Too bad I was just there for a conference and not a real vacation.

This is a gigantic, very corporate feeling mega-hotel. The location on the beach is good. The rooms were well kept but nothing special - many don't have views. The pool area was also pretty small and generally underwhelming. Not a bad stay, but nothing to write home about.Recommended for:

I really like this hotel. Great location right in the beach. Fantastic service. In the evenings you can sit outside around fire pits. The rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable. Nice heated pool. It frustrates me that they charge for wifi.
I highly recco mend the fish tacos!

Recently had my second stay at Loews, eight years after my first. At that time I referred to my stay as my best hotel experience ever. Although there were many differences in the circumstances of my second stay, nothing diminished my initial opinion. Great pool scene, excellent other amenities, friendly staff. Walking distance to the Pier and the Mall. My one caveat is: If you receive a certificate for breakfast brunch, clarify with both the host and the waitstaff what you get for your cert.

Really, what more to say that the previous reviewers haven't? As Travis wrote, the Loews feels very corporate and impersonal. This is probably out of necessity, as they host a ton of conferences and have a constantly high turnover. However, this is negative is more than balanced out by the hotel's superb location and amenities. 30 second walk to the beach, <5 minutes walk from the SM pier and the 3rd St Promenade...can't beat that! As Chris wrote, the gym is key (but often crowded...) If it is full, just run on the beach. Make sure to eat at nearby ChaCha Chicken, a low-key local joint that serves up the best jerk I've had outside of Jamaica.

From the moment you enter the hotel the lobby is grand with a glass ceiling the height of the hotel. It allows amazing light in but never direct light. Its comfortable and tranquil. Feels like a resort. There is complementary fresh lemonade for guest and visitors and its just the thing you need to cool down from the warm Santa Monica weather outside. There is a beautiful and relaxing hotel bar off the lobby and in almost every direction you look you have a view of the ocean. There is nothing but glass, glass, glass everywhere. Its like the ultimate indoor/outdoor space. Then the pool area is just as beautiful. There are sweeping views of the ocean and seating right off the pool with each table having its own personal fire pit in the middle. No tacky heat lamps here. You get real fire at the Loews. The fitness area and spa are also very nice. Its larger than most hotel gyms and there is every piece of equipment one might need to stay in shape. This could very well be your home gym. It has everything. And the rooms are very spacious and comfortable, flat screen TVs, modern contemporary decor and luxurious bathrooms. This place is where you need to be when visiting Santa Monica. Decor, ambiance, and convenience to the pier and beaches make this place 5 stars!
