London Hotel Insider
No one does "pomp and circumstance" better than London. Great Britain’s capital city is regal and elegant, and has long been one of the world’s most popular vacation destinations. It’s got a little bit of everything, including great music and art, monumental buildings, excellent ... read more
theater, quirky neighborhoods, and a culinary scene that’s been slowly grabbing the attention of foodies from around the world. Furthermore, London has always been home to a number of stellar hotels, some providing wonderful views of the Thames or the Tower Bridge, others in the more Bohemian West End, and many in lovely sections like Kensington or Hyde Park.

Hotels in London
London has both privately owned lodging options and hotels that are part of well-known chains. Best Western, for example, is the largest chain in England and boasts 19 facilities in London alone. Similarly, Hilton has 21 hotels in London, and the U.K.-based Thistle Group, with hotels ranging from 3- to 5-star, has 18 in the capital city. You’ll find many other familiar names as well as trendy boutique hotels, quaint inns and charming B&Bs. Amenities in London’s top hotels include spas and fitness centers, pools, and – in many cases – excellent restaurants, like chef Gordon Ramsay’s eatery at Claridge’s. Rooms tend to be a bit smaller than in the United States but most are quite comfortable and more than ample for the visitor on-the-go.

Neighborhoods and Things to Do in London
London’s attractions are countless! Most first-time visitors to the city concentrate their stay on Central London, which will allow them easy access to all the most-loved tourist spots, including Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace, Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Big Ben, the Tower of London, and the giant London Eye Ferris Wheel. It’s easy to find a hotel within a quick walk or Tube ride of all the fun. Theater fans will want to stay in the West End, where many musicals and plays arrive before heading to Broadway in New York City. For a great stay in the West End neighborhood, check out hotels such as the Courthouse Doubletree by Hilton, the Charlotte Hotel in Soho, Fairmont’s breathtaking Savoy, and the pretty St. Martin’s Lane. Shopping in London is stellar and those inclined to spend some money on the high street, at the major stores like Topshop, should head to Oxford Street. This one-and-a-half mile stretch of road offers major department stores like Selfridges, Marks and Spencer, and Debenhams, as well as fashionable boutiques, music stores, and more. Streets like Regent and Bond also offer high-end fashions a la Rodeo Drive. They’re a great place for discriminating shoppers to spend the day, browsing at shops like Armani, Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Tiffany and Co., and Hermes. Hotels near London’s best shopping districts include No. 5 Maddox Street, Lancaster London, Claridge’s, and The Courthouse.

This came up in Gogobot though I checked into Foursquare for the Craven Cafe, which is across the street and has divine cappuccinos. Not sure why this loaded instead, but it's a perfectly adequate family hotel near Hyde Park. Or at least has that reputation. Hard to know for sure without staying there! :)

The Marriott London Grosvenor Square Hotel is a fantastic place to stay on the edge of Hyde Park. It is very reasonably priced for a hotel of it's stature. It's quiet, comfortable, clean, and convenient, and I would jump at the chance to stay there again.

Great location! The staff was friendly, knowledgable, and multilingual. The location is perfect because it's quiet and out of the way but only a short taxi ride to many of the main attractions or there is a Tube station right across the street. The famous Black Friar Pub is also located across the street. Love this place!

Another in the Palmer's Lodge line of London hostels, you can't really go wrong if what you're looking for is cheap (in an incredibly expensive city), safe, and clean. This location is a little bit out of the way of your typical tourist, but not too inconvenient (just a few long blocks from the nearest tube). The staff was friendly, ...

Classic, chic and centrally location. Secluded in the Belgravia district, very close to Buckingham Palace and within walking distance to Victoria Train Station. One of an absolute army of Radisson Edwardian hotels that has colonized London, the Sussex is by far my favorite. This hostel has some very nice features, like the red leather couches and super high ceilings in the bar, and some slightly strange ones, like the short stay dorm bunks with giant A and B stencilled on them so you know which bunk you are in.
