    69 Colebrooke Row

The Sunday Times newspaper calls Tony Conigliaro, the man behind this unusual bar space, the Willy Wonka of the drinks world. I prefer to think of this place as doing for cocktails what El Bulli did for food. Tony cut his teeth at Isola, Roka and the Shochu Lounge, finally opening this venue in 2009. The place is small and ...

A true test of how good a cocktail bar is the staff. The first time I visited I wasn't keen on the cocktails on offer, the barman asked me three things I liked to drink and he created a beautiful drink that I have never been able to recreate. Being asked to try it to make sure I liked it ...

Really cool and laid back cocktail place hidden in Shoreditch. It has somewhat of an Asian inspired decor. As the place is quite long and narrow, it has several sections. Closer to the entrance, it is great for larger group to have afterwork drinkers. As you walk all the way to the back, there are several coach areas perfect for ...

Lovely little place tucked in on Portobello Road. With an extensive cocktail list and decent tunes this is a great place to sneak in for a cheeky drink with friends. Rumour has it there's a pretty amazing Gin place upstairs although it was apparently closed when I was there.

    Shadow lounge

Right at the end of Old Compton St. in London's west-end, the Shadow Lounge offers up a little bit of swank on a street filled with somewhat grungy gay bars. It's only a little bit of swank, though-- so don't be fooled or get your hopes higher than they should be. There's a bouncer at the door, but I'm not ...

The website says: A sophisticated cocktail bar...and it definitely is. Fancy atmosphere with very tasty furniture and high quality cocktails. Canapes are also very good and creative. A note of colour: waiting staff, one at a time, during the night might sings (very well - it's not a karaoke) to entertain the guests

Great new offering in Soho/Fitzrovia. Been open about a year and undergone a refurb. Part cocktail bar, part coffee bar, bookstore and literary salon, this is a great hangout for the literati. The owner used to work for Harper Collins and knows the publishing industry well; her partner runs a boutique press. Great conversation and interesting crowd. Poetry and short ...

The Club at the Ivy, London

    1 review

Guests enter The Club through a lovely glass elevator. The space is gorgeous and the cocktails are quite good; however, the clientele here are trying pretty hard and end up being far less posh than their surroundings. A bit stuffy. A bit older. Not entirely unattractive but certainly far from inviting.

I was understandably apprehensive about visiting anywhere in London which bills itself as a 'luxurious Indian themed cocktail bar'. Conceptually it just sounds all wrong. A quick pre-visit peek at the bar's website and I couldn't help wondering if I'm 20 years too old to go here. Located under The Red Fort, one of London's oldest and best Indian restaurants, ...

Swanky and pricey. This is London. Come here for drinks, up on the 5th floor; there's no entrance fee. Cocktails, though, easily run around £10 each and even beers £6. But there's a nice terrace to stand outside on and enjoy your drink with a pretty view. There is also a restaurant, serving tapas-style food (I think), but I didn't ...
