The epicenter of the epicenter of South Africa's tourist scene, backpackery, party-heavy Long Street is the place to get down in Cape Town. There are a slew of good restaurants, and fine shopping along the drag in boutiques and craft stalls, but it's the bars that keep people coming back. It's a party 7 nights a week, and Long Street never takes a night off. Friendly, gritty, and multicultural, this is where black, white, and colored all come together to rock out in the Mother City.

Long Street is Cape Town's trendy row, full of lively nightclubs, boutique shops, and hip hostels. This is where young backpackers make a bee line for once they arrive in South Africa's oldest city. While there are a few highlights along the street, I much prefer the quieter neighborhoods, like nearby Kloof Street. However, if you're looking for a raucous night out, this is where you should go.

Long Street is THE place to stay and visit for the average backpacker. The name says it all it is long and a buzzing place to hang out. There are a range of affordable backpacker hostels to stay in and loads of little shops to explore. It has changed a lot in the last ten years, so my boyfriend informs me, but has kept some of its sights and place since then, such as Mama Africa. There are plenty of place to eat, drink, shop and meet other backpackers. A great place to visit if travelling alone and looking to make friends.Recommended for:Backpackers
