Forest elephants and forest buffalo are species I never thought I'd have the opportunity to see; but in Lope I did. Lope is so rarely visited and has very little infrastructure and this has pros and cons. Pros: It feels like a real adventure, tearing through the jungle in an open 4X4. The cons: the guides are quiet inexperienced (as of 2009) and the animals aren't habituated like in places such as Masai Mara so they're harder to see. Still worth a look for wildlife buffs, especially birders. Great, exotic stuff there. This place is really making an effort to eliminate the real problem of poaching and habitat destruction and the more tourists that visit, the better I think it will get.
