- Lotte Hotel SeoulJul 05, 2012
Tucked in the middle of a cluster of Seoul's busiest and most popular tourist neighborhoods, Lotte Hotel is a great option for easy access to some of the best attractions in the city. Walking distance to two different Palaces, scenic walks with traditional architecture, frenzied shopping and a plethora of restaurants all lie within a 5-20 min walking radius of the hotel.
The hotel itself is lovely, though not unique in it's aesthetic or design. It exudes an opulent air, but the finery of the golds and light wood touches through out the hotel are a bit void of any unique character or flair. This lack of creative juice is in no way a determent to the overall luxury experience of the place, it just feels very similar to many hotels I've seen in the same price range.
The service is top notch and getting help in English should never be a problem, as almost every staff member that I encountered there had some level of English ability.
The rooms are equipped with fully automated controls, and a panel beside the bed serves as an easy way to adjust just about everything in the room, even including automated window shades. And with 3 restaurants on site (Korean, Chinese, Japanese), Spa, Fitness Room, and indoor connection to the adjacent Lotte Department Store, everything you would need is available without stepping a foot outside the hotel.
For the location and service, Lotte Hotel would make for a lovely and stress-free stay right in the heart of Seoul.Recommended for

Lotte is one of the largest food, entertainment and shopping conglomerates in Korea, and their immense flair for opulence certainly isn't lost on their massive hotel in the Myeong-dong area. The waterfall in the lounge is absolutely stunning and the live piano music sets a classy tone. For such a large establishment, the staff is actually quite friendly. If you're a shopper who prefers to be close to the consumer action, then this is the hotel for you. There are many duty-free luxury shops, such as Tumi and Swarovski, right on the premises, and the Lotte Duty-Free Department Store is just next door. Plus there are separate restaurants specializing in Korean, French, Chinese and Japanese cuisine. All in all, the location is great and the space is impressive, but the hotel lacks character and isn't unique in any way. There are definitely more interesting places to stay in the area.
