The big art in every room, the barefoot receptionist, the high ceilings and old wood banisters, the high-quality furniture in the common spaces, the “movie theater”, the ocean view, the bar on the back patio, the prime location in the most crumbly, charming part of town: all of this makes Luna's the best hostel in Panama City. Breakfast is pancakes and bananas – which you make yourself. The private rooms are super duper tiny and their bathrooms are not en suite (you have to walk down the common hall to get to them). I'm probably being overly generous with the fifth star here, but I'm gonna give it anyway because I dig all the art.Recommended for:

When I was in Panama in 2010, the best way to get from Panama to Colombia was via sailboat and I am assuming that it remains the best means of travels as it is inexpensive, beautiful, and you will meet other travelers before arriving in Cartagena! Luna's Castle Hostel in Casco Viejo is not only a terrific hangout with a great view of the new city, hammocks, and free use of guitars, but it is where you will find a ride to Colombia. There is a big board of Cartagena-bound vessels there with dates and prices of each. We sailed aboard the Watussi from the San Blas Islands to Cartagena for around $300 USD. From what I have heard, we got a pretty smokin' deal. The only reason I would rate Luna's Castle Hostel 4 stars rather than 5 was because at the time, it was not competitively priced in comparison to nearby hostels. Colombia is one of my favorite destinations, don't miss it!

It was hot, Easter Sunday and I had been standing on the side of a highway for over an hour before I caught some transportation into Panama City. Luna Castle Hostel made me feel revived and put me into a great mood.
Everyone was very friendly and it was easy to talk to staff members and others staying at the hostel. They even arranged for me to share cabs with others staying a the hostel. They have a great movie theater area which was nice since I was skipping mass and nothing was open that night.

This place is way too nice to be a hostel. From the moment you set foot in Luna's Castle you are greeted with dark hard wood floors and staircase. The walls are generously appointed with tapestries and paintings and other imaginative decor suggesting you have just entered a dream world. The common areas are not air conditioned, which is not unusual in these parts but the dormitory and private rooms have cool air piped in. In the reception area you can find beer, water and sodas for sale. A private room with bunk beds will set you back $30 which includes wifi and breakfast.

Really great Hostel in Panama City. Located in the beautiful colonial district, with crumbling facades that make some of the best pictures I got in Central America. Our room was clean, and had the most amazing view of the bay and Panama City skyline. The front desk is incredibly helpful (even got a haircut in the lobby by one of the workers) and they help arrange all boats to Cartagena. Cool bar located underneath, and always willing to help you figure out where to go/how to get there. Definitely head there when you are in P.City!
