I really wanted to love this. It has some nice displays but somehow doesn't quite live up to the majesty of the archaeological sights it is intended to support. A nice accompaniment to any studying you have already done but don't expect to learn a lot. The a/c here is a welcome blessing and was probably the highlight for me.

If you are going to both Cairo and Luxor then skip the museum in Cairo and go to this one instead. The Luxor Museum is much better laid out and everything is explained unlike the Cairo Museum. There are also a few mummies to see.

A small and absolutely fascinating museum that surprises with two mummies exhibited there! (King Ahmose, who fought the Hyksos , Dynasty 17, and the mummy of the man supposed to be Ramesses I, whom I believe about it is King Ay or Horemheb) A lot evidences from the Amarna Period (eg. Talatats of King Akhenatens temple found int the pylons 9 and 10 of later king Horemheb), a chariot of King Tutankhamun, some wapons, some evidences from coptic past and so on. The museum is easily accessible via the newly renovated Corniche du Nil!!! It is near Karnak-temple, so, after a break, perhaps a dinner, if you want you can visit Karnak temple after the Luxor - Museum to see the Light-Show in the evening

Best museum in Egypt. Smaller than the Cairo Museum with a fraction of the collection, but better laid out, climate controlled & almost serene. Tut's treasure is mostly in Cairo, or traveling the world in museum tours, but some of the everyday items found in his tomb are here in excellent displays (arrows, a chariot, a bed, etc.). Pharaoh Ahmose, one of Egypt's greatest national heroes, is here as well.
