Large International Airport. It is a bit of a hike from Madrid, but it is connected to the city by Metro, so it isn't too big of a deal to get there from the city centerRecommended for

The Best!! An easy airport to navigate and a wonder to look at!
Everything is clearly marked and easy to find.
So important when you've been traveling a long distance and just want to get to your destination. The metro is right at the airport and will take you to central Madrid quickly and I expensively.

This airport is an exception in Europe: it can be reached from Plaza del Sol in only 15minutes, if you know how... But be careful, you won't find any internet or printer inside terminal 1-2-3 and the 4th is not so close to the others, so be prepared if you fly with low cost airlines.

Barajas Airport has been around since 1928, and sorry to say, it looks like it. I have been in that airport four times, and while not the greatest airport in the world, one nonetheless feels safe while walking through the airport, and especially in boarding a plane. Security is very good.

I flew United out of Madrid and the check-in is so inefficient. They had 4 counters open for an entire plane full of people. Do the math. The food options were pretty decent though. Although, I'd be hungry for just about anything that early in the am. The only thing going for it is that you can take the train into Madrid-Barajas with a metro transfer. One way 1.5 Euro.
