I think most people who have spent a lot of time in Spain are either Madrid people or Barcelona people. I am more partial to Barcelona. However, having said that Madrid is still an amazing city. Great museums, active night life and plenty of great restaurants. Like Barcelona it is also a great sport city with one of the world's best soccer teams Real Madrid.

Madrid was my favorite city in Spain. It combines the best nightlife I've seen in Europe with absolutely incredible cultural exhibits. Night clubs, Picasso and really good cheese.

Madrid was a short (2 day) stop on our way to Barcelona. I mainly wanted to go there because my favorite painting in the world is in the Prado, but I wound up REALLY loving this city and would love to go back for a longer stay.

Some travelers skip over Madrid, Spain's cosmopolitan capital city, but I found it refreshingly real and down-to-earth after visiting some of the country's more touristy destinations like the Costa del Sol and Barcelona. There are plenty of museums, art galleries and excellent traditional and modern restaurants to keep you busy for at least a few days, if not an entire week.
