I think most people who have spent a lot of time in Spain are either Madrid people or Barcelona people. I am more partial to Barcelona. However, having said that Madrid is still an amazing city. Great museums, active night life and plenty of great restaurants. Like Barcelona it is also a great sport city with one of the world's best soccer teams Real Madrid.

I'm living in Madrid for 6 years now and I absolutely LOVE this city, and I still find new things to see or do. This city offers you a lot of everything. If you're planning on visiting you can easily stay for a week and you won't get bored. It is also perfect for nightlife lovers.
If you're just staying for 2 days, I recommend a tour around Sol: Sol, Plaza Mayor, Mercado San Miguel, Opera, Catedral La Almudena, Palacio Real, Plaza España, Gran Vía, Callao, Metropolis, Cibeles, Puerta de Alcalá, Parque El Retiro, Museo El Prado and back to Sol. It's all very close so you can walk everywhere.
If you have a bit more time: Train Station Atocha and Museo Reina Sofia or Thyssen, Templo de Debod, La Latina, Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, Plaza de Toros Las Ventas.
Can't stand Madrid in the summer though, it get's way too hot, don't come on july nor august!

Madrid is a town in the Barcelona province of Spain. Not long ago, agriculture was the main occupation of people in Madrid. But, now the town has transformed itself into an industrially advanced center. At the same time, Madrid is also known for its most pleasant weather and for areas that are rich in vegetation and natural beauty.
