I was surprised to see some of the really critical comments on the MO Boston on other websites. I thought the property was solid.
- Bell staff, reception and concierge on the ball and very friendly
- Rooms were what I would expect. Views aren't great and I don't personally like the choice of sea foam coloring for some of the furnishings but the rooms are solid. Lot's of power outlets in a convenient location by the desk
- Bar and restaurant have nice modern Asian-influenced design. Food and beverage quality is very high
Only negative I experienced was that the bar and restaurant staff were a bit of a mixed bag. Some were clearly grumpy and inattentive. Also, seems they don't cross train so even if someone is available they may not be willing to do something until the "responsible" person shows up -- e.g., "let me find my colleague so that she can seat you" in our empty restaurant.
I'd choose the Four Seasons over this property. The service is much better there.

There isn’t much, if anything, the Mandarin lacks. It’s location on Boylston Street in the heart of Boston’s Back Bay is ideal. The hotel has a currency exchange on its front desk, good for any weary traveler who doesn’t want to scour the area for a bank to change their Euros (or Pounds, Yen, Swiss Francs or about a half-dozen others). When you get to your room, prepare to be wowed. The bathrooms have separate showers and bathtubs, and the toilet is separated from those (as a bonus, there’s a shaving mirror in the shower for those who like to shave in there). The hotel also has both 24/7 room service and housekeeping, and provides an in-room safe. The staff was friendly and also said they’d make any special accommodation we’d ask for, and I wish we had been able to take them up on their offer. One word of advice though, don’t pay the extra $50 for the “premium” view, it’s really not worth it.

For such an exclusive brand, the building’s a little on the short side (just 8 floors of hotel rooms) and the view isn’t that great. That’s about all there is to say against this otherwise very plush establishment, which is smack between Hynes Convention Center and Copley Square T stops for those reliant on public transportation (it’s also connected to the Prudential center which is very convenient for shopping). There’s a lot of space here, not just in the rooms but also in the gigantic lobby. The 5-star Spa is a big draw, of course; it's available to non-guests and has a wide selection of different scrubs, baths and massages (one of which has a three-hour minimum). The bathroom is nicer than the bathroom in my house, with not only a separate bathtub and shower but a frosted glass door separating the toilet as well. There are lots of toiletries and amenities included, including a surprisingly nice hair dryer in its own case. The staff is responsive and very informative, if a bit stiff. There’s even an international currency exchange at the front desk, very useful if you’re coming from abroad.
