One of the top high teas are held in the mandarin oriental hotel. The scones are to die for and the strawberry green tea is deliciousness!

Locally, this property is referred to as the "old" Mandarin Oriental because it was the first one in the city. Friends who live in Hong Kong advised against staying there but I was pleasantly surprised.

The property is in an excellent location that is an easy 10 min walk from the Hong Kong Airport Express station. The external facade isn't very attractive and is built in a 70's concrete bunker style. The lobby area also has a very "retro" feel to it. Lobby furnishings are lavish (marble, chandeliers, and brass) but a bit dated and the low ceilings make it feel a bit cramped.

Aside from the lobby and external facade, it is hard to fault the property. The rooms have been nicely refurbished and are quite modern -- wireless internet, adequate plugs, and modern Asian styling. The bathroom areas are lovely and the Hermes toiletries are a nice touch.

Service at the property is exceptional. Very attentive and predictive.

I would choose the Landmark Mandarin over this one. The rooms at the Landmark are larger and the style is more distinctive however, this isn't a bad Hong Kong Island option if the Landmark and Four Seasons are full or if you can get a good deal (which is unlikely).

When at the Mandarin, walk across the street to the Prince's Building and grab a drink on the terrace at Seva.

At one time a legend, with service standards quite unparallelled anywhere else in the world. Whilst still exceptionally smart, much of the unique charm of the rooms was lost during the last major refurbishment - resulting is a look which is more homegenised.

Although this Mandarin Oriental has been renovated a couple of times ... it's still got an older feel to it that you might expect out of an 80s Hong Kong hotel.

It's still the Mandarin Oriental so there's luxury all around ... but I feel the place is more for my grandfather than it is for me. Maybe if I was the brandy / cigar smoking type ... I'd feel more at home here.

Putting all that aside, it's not the most convenient of hotels. It's a ways from the MTR and not exactly on the harbor. It's sort of in between things and really ... there's not many good eats as close by compared to other hotels.

This is one of my favourite business hotel not only because of its strategic location at Central but also because of its newly renovated, cozy but modern rooms.

This HKG classic is very centrally located. The rooms have been recently updated yet the lobby retains both its old school grandeur and modern chicness. The cake shop has incredible pastry items. Great for quick breakfast or quick snack. Pierre on the 25th floor has great food with fantastic harbour views. Service very professional and attentive. Great value? Well you get what is paid for.

Iconic hotel in Central, Hong Kong...favoured by all that desire quality rooms, great location, world class restaurants, and best of all, it's discreet and understated.

One of my favourite things in life is sitting in the beautiful "Cigar Divan" on the ground floor quietly contemplating, with a Churchill in hand.

Not cheap but, in the scheme of things, not crushingly expensive either. Views over the harbour (through the binoculars supplied in every room) are spectacular and access to the island on the surface and underground are all outside the door. Hotel facilities are second to none, as is the service (but bring something with a collar to get into the nicest restaurants). Having a menu choice of classical music for the Mercedes transfers to Chek Lap Kok topped off our stay.

Top-floor restaurant gets great reviews. My expectations were exceeded. Wonderful wait staff. Power lunch location for Hong Kong's business elite. Afternoon tea in the lobby is Hong Kong's answer to The Ritz in London.

I used to have afternoon tea here all the time when I lived here. My friends and I would park ourselves on the comfy chairs and sit there for hours. Now that it's been renovated the Clipper Lounge is sleek, chic and dare I say it - not as "cozy" as before? They still serve an awesome High Tea which includes their famous Rose Petal jam is not to be missed; the jam is available at their Cake Shop.
