Just pulling up to the hotel, before you even enter the premises, you're already exclaiming how cute it is. Literally across the street from Forsyth Park, you're lucky if you get a room with a view of the greenery. As if there isn't enough art in the gallery on the main floor, the hallways on every floor are lined with paintings, sculptures, and chandeliers. The bedrooms are bright and the bathrooms are roomy -- so roomy that you have a door to the shower, a door to the john, and plantation shutters between the tub and the sleeping space.

It is something when a wordsmith has trouble describing a hotel. Yet, the Mansion is such a sensory overload, so much to discover, always there are new components. This time the efficiency of the valet staff impressed me. They whisk (not race) vehicles to some unseen parking area. Guests can forget about their cars, for a van shuttles (evenings) between the hotel and its sister property onvthe riverfront, The Bohemian. Then there are pedi-cabs, and by day the trolleys stop right in front of the Mansion’s restaurant, 700 Drayton St., where one can take a full, breakfast. New, since I stayed there, is the Forsyth Café in the park where you can go for a coffee and bagel or breakfast sandwich. Back at 700, they’ve made a sidewalk café where lunch is served 'til 2 p.m., Dinner service begins at 5 p.m. both at the cafe and in he maze of gorgeous dining rooms, with furniture that is eye-candy and art that is stunning. It continues to dazzle me. The same can be said of the hotel’s lobby and the art gallery, its antique hat collection and the pool with its white, “Lawrence of Arabia” draped patio -- like a mirage on a hot summer day.

If you are looking for a nearly perfect hotel, then give Mansion a trial stay. With its fine art pointed walls to its fresh flowers in the elevator, this gem is not to be forgotten. Nestled next to the bustling campus of SCAD, this hotel boasts a wide range of art options, from a full visual art gallery to an chance to try your hand at the culinary arts in the on-sight cooking classes.
