A classic for live shows in N'awlins, the Maple Leaf looks and feels like it has been around for decades. A barn-sized venue, when local funk brass bands like Rebirth play, the whole place shakes with the sound of the tuba, the crowd singling along, beer glasses clinking and everybody's feet tapping. Not too far a walk from the streetcar line, but definitely away from the city's touristy areas.

Located next door to Jacques-Imo’s restaurant (mentioned elsewhere in this guide), the Maple Leaf is one of the longest continuously-run operations of New Orleans’ music clubs with live performances seven nights a week. Rebirth Brass Band has a standing show here every Tuesday night, and they are one of the most consistently-entertaining acts playing New Orleans’ traditional music. Here, you can easily catch a great show, knock back a few drinks, and take in some local culture all in the same seat.

While I haven't personally attended Maple Leaf Bar, word from the travel world suggests the Maple Leaf Bar is a terrific music venue. Local favorite the Rebirth Brass Band plays every Tuesday and is generally viewed as a must-see, but even if you can't catch them, the Maple Leaf Bar remains a terrific place to check out live acts.Recommended for:Nightlife Lovers

What can I say... The Maple Leaf!!! I love it!!!! More great music goes through here in a week than many towns may see in a year!!! Get some amazing weekly regulars... , Bartenders, Sound techs, doormen etc... are Stars in their own rights! In fact The Maple Leaf is the kind of place that encourages everybody to be a Star... Put your dancing shoes on, get involved in a great conversation, just have a great time!!! Definitely worth the ride uptown... besides Oak St itself is a Happening Spot!

It's about a 10-15 minute cab ride from downtown Chicago. It's a little out of the way for travelers, however it is SO worth it.
Take away the tourists and add really awesome big band live jazz and a comfy neighborhood vibe and you have the Maple Leaf bar. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here!!
