Extremely comfortable, relaxing stay here: this location is everything you'd expect from a Marriott and more. Our room had an enormous, impossibly comfortable bed, and still room for a desk, chairs, table, and when we ordered room service, the meal cart (complete with a flower for added touch). We were able to see three days worth of Amsterdam within walking distance, and I relaxed every evening in our room's scented bubble bath. Breakfast is hearty and "American", a comfort I admit I like, although expensive. The lobby is cozy and romantic and beautifully decorated around Christmastime - sit here with a drink in front of the fireplace to warm up after a day of sightseeing. Only downsides are that, because it's a luxury chain hotel, meals and Wi-Fi are expensive. And the hotel is located on a busy street, so the lower floors are quite noisy. Request either a higher floor, or a room facing the back garden for a quieter stay.Recommended for:

Yes I admit it's your typical Marriott, but the Marriott Amsterdam is the type of hotel you stay at for just a great night sleep or nap and a refreshing shower. Why? Because your attention will be drawn outside the hotel to the lively city of Amsterdam and the Marriott is perfectly nested within walking distance to some of the best museums, restaurants, bars, and attractions in the city. There are also bicycle rental shops right around the corner if you are looking for a faster more fun way to get around.Recommended for:

All I have to say is, make sure you ask for a room with a view. When I first arrived, we were in a little cave on the second floor. Great for sleeping off a hangover, maybe, but kind of depressing for anything else. We moved to the ninth floor to a much better room with windows, and then everything was great. The beds are very good, the location stupidly central, and the service really, truly cheery. The only downsides for me were paying for Wifi and the lack of affordable breakfast options...the easiest thing to do is eat in the restaurant downstairs, where you'll easily drop a tenner for a croissant and coffee.

Average American-style hotel in a great location. Rooms and lobby/bar have been renovated. Service was average. Average value for the money. Good for business travelers who don't want any surprises. But if you want to feel like you are in Amsterdam, there are probably better choices.Recommended for:

I really enjoyed myself here. It's right in middle of town and has all of the amenities that you would need on a trip to Amsterdam. I was there during Christmas and they gave me great advice on all of the best parts of town to visit. They also had free mulled wine in the lounge so you could start your evening feeling right.

The Marriott Amsterdam has an unbeatable location in the thick of the action - and as a bonus, you can spend an entire day in the hotel alone if you wish. There is no shortage of public areas for a drink, a bit of newspaper or book reading, or socializing. The lobby lounge is particularly enjoyable, being cozy and quiet, despite new Amsterdam arrivals trekking in to check in.
