Beautiful views of the ocean, great salt water pool, relaxing spa, large suites with full kitchens and laundry, and free internet make this a great choice!
Beautiful view from our room. I think the resort is set up so that every room has a decent view. The patios are great and pretty spacious. We hardly used ours, but it would be a great place to have a glass of wine and watch the sunset.
This isn't an incredibly luxurious 5 star resort, but it is a great resort that has a lot of features you won't find at your typical 4 star hotel. It's a great place to come with a group or family and because all the rooms are suites, you have many of the benefits of home (and saving money) available to you (like you can eat some of your meals in your room).
Rooms are great:
2 bedrooms + 2 bathrooms- sleeps up to 8 people (2 beds, 2 sofa beds)
Master bathroom is awesome- large soaking tub in the bedroom, dual shower head shower in the bathroom!
Kitchen-fully stocked with full sized stove and fridge, dishes and utensils + dishwasher
Washer and Dryer-you can leave with clean clothes!
Free wi-fi (I hate resorts/hotels that charge for this basic convenience!)
The pool area is great looking and has a great view of the ocean. Available in the pool area are a multitude of games, including a life-size chess and checker board. Now that's cool! And of course, there is a bar available!
A few steps away from the pool is the spa area. If you are not getting a spa treatment, you can still enjoy the sauna and steam room, complete with cucumber water and cool washcloths for your face.
They had some great fruity/spa water in the lobby every day, but it seemed to be empty half the time.
They also have mini golf, teatherball, basketball and other activities available.
A few tips:
As others have said, exit on MacArthur and save yourself the toll.
If you are staying for several days, bring some food with you, or go to the grocery store. Even if it's just snacks or breakfast items, it's nice (and probably healthier and cheaper) to eat in your room.
-It's close to the beach, but not really close enough to walk (especially w/kids) so you still end up driving.
-Depending on which room you are in, you may have a pretty long walk to the pool nearest you.
-The room itself had a few minor maintenance issues (cracked tile, etc). I would expect these to be taken care of at a resort that claims to have high standards.

We loved this hotel. The two bedroom condo was perfect for our family and the views of the Newport Coast were fantastic. The staff was a lot of fun and had activities for everyone in our family - from adult to toddler! We really enjoyed the pool and the cabana bar. The food was great and the wait staff took great care of us. I would highly recommend this hotel!

I would say Marriott Newport Coast Villas is my list of favorite hotels. This place is huge. The rooms are spacious. The views are great depending on where your villa is. I stayed in a two bedroom villa and it was great utilizing their fully equipped kitchen. It was like home away from home. The double shower heads in the bathroom was cool definitely had two people showering together in mind.
They have a huge pool for the kiddies and an adult pool area. This is definitely a family friendly hotel. There's an activities/game room for the kids.
The view of Crystal Cove is great on a clear sunny day. Theme parks are not too far away and there's plenty of shopping nearby.
It's all about location, location, location and Marriott scored big on this location.

GORGEOUS view of Crystal Cove. A beautiful location along Newport Coast, this is on the outskirts of Laguna and Newport but offers a more scenic and serene option for the traveler. You're also you're right next to Corona Del Mar, which has lots of shopping and restaurants, and the Crystal Cove shopping center has some delicious eats as well. You can walk across to Crystal Cove, Shake Shack and Beachcomber. The rooms are unbelievable as well.
