What a find (!!) I can't believe that this small mom n' pop shop is only footsteps away from Grauman's Chinese Theatre. Seriously... if you're going to walk around one of LA's most tourist infested area, you might as well enjoy it with some amazing ice cream!
I decided to get two scoops ($4 double, $3 single) with two of their most popular flavors- Rosewater Saffron and Herbal Snow. Both were so refreshing and it's not like any ice cream I've ever had. The Herbal Snow is more of a sorbet and icy, while the Saffron is more creamy like a traditional ice cream. Both have various seeds/grains so it's definitely adds a new dimension to the normal ice cream ingredients and they let you sample any and everything, woohoo!!
They also have a few pints of their popular flavors to go and certain Whole Foods carry them as well. Overall it's a solid spot to grab an exotic treat and it's definitely as good as it gets! :)

About a year ago I saw a story on 60 Minutes about this little ice cream shop in LA. I wrote down the name and swore I would make it there and I Finally Did! The Rosewater Saffron with Pistachios was unlike anything I have ever tasted. I liked it and am still thinking about the flavors. I am so glad I wrote down the name. This is on my BEST OF LA list.

Someone told me that this place is Persian-owned and hence the unique flavors like saffron, orange blossom, and rose water. Some of these flavors are pretty strong so it's definitely not for everyone. The good news is you can ask to sample them before you order.
I tried the saffron, lavender, orange blossom and creamy rose water. Saffron and lavender are very strong so I didn't really like them. I like the creamy rose water the best and ordered a scoop of it. The price is reasonable. You can get a tub of ice cream at $9.
Their ice cream is not overly sweet. They also have a lot of flavors to choose from. Some are more unique but they also have all the traditional flavors.
They have 3 tables outside and quite a few inside. There is valet parking in the lot but Mashti has its own parking to the side. You just have to let the valet know.

I love, love, love the ice cream at Mashti Malone's! It is a hole in the wall, with not very much room inside, but the best food often comes from places like that! They have flavors like rose water (their most famous) and often incorporate other classic flavors of Iran like pomegranate and pistachio and cardamom.

Mashti Malone's is amazing. They have a great range of unusual and exotic ice cream flavors and I love bringing new people here. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but it is well worth the visit!

Looking for something "exotic" or "unique"? Mashti Malone's ice cream is the '-ish'.
You won't find these premium ingredients elsewhere: rosewater, saffron, orange blossom, pomegranate, arabian gun, etc.
I haven't tried them all ... must go back for more!
