    Mike's Pastry

    53 reviews

So while the munchkin and I were trapsing around Beantown and the surrounding area, something caught my attention. It was this dorky blue and white donut box being carried by tons and tons of people. It had a twine closure on it that everyone used as a handle. You literally couldnt help but notice this "advertising" everywhere. So as we ...

    Modern Pastry

Modern is a poorly kept secret. The desserts are just about as good as Mikes, but usually without as long a line. The lobster tails here are outstanding, and the coffee and gelato are surprisingly good as well.

    Scottish Bakehouse

    7 reviews

Amazing pastries. The almond croissants are spectacular, and everything else was very good. Really good coffee too, and refills (or your own container) are only a dollar. Busy, but not overwhelmingly so.

    Hole in One Donut Shop

    7 reviews

Best doughnut shop around. Popular with locals year round and tourists in the summer. Lines form out the door for their delicious coffee, bagels, wonderful selection of donuts, pastries and also gourmet cupcakes. Also has limited counter seating. Fairway restaurant, attached and owned by same family, serves delicious breakfasts, again, line extends out the door at times.

    Modern Pastry Shop Inc

    6 reviews

When you are in Boston, stop by this little bakery and pick up my favorite cannoli, I prefer the basic ricotta with powdered sugar -- it is a crispy classic. Bring and home and enjoy with a nice cup of iced coffee on our upstairs deck.

    Maria's Pastry Shop

    4 reviews

Just a turn from the packed mikes bakery, but not already pre filled cannolis and just as good. If you're not down to wait in line at mikes, walk a block and get a cannoli from Maria's instead.

    Clear Flour Bread Bakery

If you haven't had the morning buns, you haven't experienced living. They are out of this world. Long lines on the weekend. Get there early or they will sell out.

    Sweet Cupcakes

    4 reviews

Sweet Cupcakes is a very popular place, with their huge variety of regular and mini cupcakes. Although the frostings are creamy and delicious, the cake part is a little dry. I do like their choice of Izze and other unique sodas though.

    Chocolate Sparrow

The ice cream is great! And so is the hot chocolate. And we LOVE the sea salt and chocolate covered caramels. This place has wifi and is a great spot to hang out in or get a decadent dessert.

    Great Taste Bakery & Restaurant

    3 reviews

This place is far, far, better than the other pastry shop down the street and although their prices are a bit more expensive, ALL the egg tarts here are delicious no matter what kind of you get! They have authentic Chinese / Asian cakes of all sorts and every pastry comes tasting fresh, flaky and flavorful; just how I recall ...

    Helmut's Strudel

My favorite harborside place to begin or end the day with a fresh cup of coffee and warm strudel, croissant or muffin perched on the deck. A perfect way to start the day!

I love buying local, which is a part of what drew me to Rickard's. They have an awesome 12 grain loaf as well as a killer rosemary sourdough. After coming back from France I struggled with American bread until I found Rickard's. They've got more flavor and less processing than your average loaf.
