I've been to Mastro's Ocean Club and I loved it. I haven't tried the steak at this location but I have it on very good authority that it's pretty damn delicious. The other evening while having dinner across the street, Chris K. and I decided that we wanted dessert but not just any dessert. We wanted butter cake from Mastro's. Yes, ooey, gooey, butter cake with ice cream and fresh whipped cream. Again, I'd never had it before and I've heard it was really good. You never know unless you try it, right? So we walked across the street from Pizzeria Ortica and made our way into Mastro's.
We asked for a table for 2 and they escorted us to a dining room with dim lighting. We ended up in a half booth which was perfect. It's dark and romantic but who were we kidding, we were there for just dessert. Do tell the waiter that you just want the dessert menu to avoid wasting his time and yours. We perused the list but butter cake was our objective. It's $15 and worth every penny. This portion can easily feed 4 people after a massive steak feast. Since it was just the two of us we polished off a good amount before admitting defeat. The cake is definitely gooey in the center but the outside was a little crumbly and dry. The ice cream and fresh whipped cream worked really well. They even garnished it with a few strawberries too. Delicious. Even if you're not there for steak, you can still have dessert.

I came here for New Year's Eve dinner with my boy. We've been to Morton's and Ruth Chris before coming here to experience the BEST steak. If you're a steak person, or maybe not really a steak person, you'll "LOVE * 3" to this place.
Honestly, I am not really a steak fan, and I loved the way they cook their steak. First, we ordered their crab cakes just so we can compare it to other crab cakes we've eaten before. Definitely this is the 2nd best crab cake we had (these crab cake were the best until I ate some @ The Original Fish Company today ~ another review). Then, the MAIN course - rib eye steak cooked medium. Man, was this steak good or was it good. Wow, I don't even know where start the compliments.
As for side dishes, I don't really think it's worth the money to order them. If you're coming to Mastro's for the first time, you should order sides dishes that you want to try to see if it's worth it for you to order it again. For us, we decided it wasn't worth our money.
First side was lobster mashed potatoes. It was $37.00 and nothing specially. Basically, it tastes as it reads, lobster with mash potatoes. I think we would had been happier if we just got mashed potatoes. Second dish was Gorgonzola macaroni and cheese. It wasn't anything special at all either. We were expecting a lot more for the mac & cheese.
As for the service, WOW, amazing. Unlike Ruth Chris who made us wait for almost TWO HOURS despite the fact we were on time and had made a reservation. Ruth Chris basically treat you like "I don't give a shit about you as a customer, sit and wait your ass for a seat."
As for Mastro's, they were really nice @ the beginning and at the end, but in between, the waiter doesn't really come check up on you @ all. As for Mastro's, wow is all I can say. The waitress came to check up on you and make sure your food is ok., but, at the same time, they are not hoovering over you so you feel pressured and had no space on your own.
If you want 2 eat steak, this is the place to eat!

I love this place. Food is always consistent The atmosphere is much nicer than Mastro's Ocean Club. Picture is of the Layer Cake, it wad good , but if you like chocolate, definately order the Chocolate Sin Cake. Have been here for our Anniversary for the last 3 years, always order the Australian lobster. The BEST!!
My husband ordered the Rack of Lamb said it was the best he has had.

Check your hangups and coat at the door and join the "Old Boys' Club" (and Ladies too!) at Mastro's. This is the creme-de-la-creme of steakhouses in Orange County. The decor is classy, modern, romantic and inviting; the food is beyond excellent and the service is absolutely outstanding. This is the perfect place for an intimate special occasion or a celebration with a group. Either way, you won't be disappointed. You'll pay for it (yikes, it's expensive), but you won't be sorry.
The first thing you'll notice is that you seem to have a veritable stable of people looking after you. Don't worry, it doesn't get awkward or overbearing. Everyone seems to be performing this perfectly timed, choreographed dance and at the center of it all is you. All you have to do is decide what you want to eat and let the awesome come to you!
On deciding what to eat, I have to endorse the steak, considering the nature of the restaurant. Mine have always been cooked to perfection. If you're unhappy, say something; they will be more than happy to make sure everything is perfect. As for side dishes, the sauteed asparagus and spinach are personal favorites. I say order one of everything when it comes to appetizers, if you are with a group that can accommodate all that food. The ice-tower that accompanies the oysters is a sight to behold and the dry-ice-lined goblet of shrimp is always fun and delicious.
Tip: I know that Mac & Cheese at fancy restaurants is a little passe, but give Mastro's a chance. It's absolutely fabulous.
