It is the biggest city on Crete and also probably the worst city. It is industry, dirty and lack of character. Even the Greeks consider it the armpit of Greece. We make the mistake of staying there for 5 nights and it was pretty horrible.

In my opinion, Reth is the most beautiful department of Crete. It combines the characteristics of a small town along with these of a village, it accomodates lots of students, it has great stamping grounds, many historical places to visit, an interesting nightlife and picturesque places to walkabout.

Malia is a very popular village near Heraklion, Crete. The majority of tourists are used to staying at/near it to entertain. I suggest visiting it during the night only if you want to see the frantic parties with a lot of alcohol and drinks!

This stretch of beach caters mostly to a European clientele. Greeks don't generally frequent the area, usually an indication the beach is not the best. There are tons of hotels, restaurants and bars to keep you occupied.

This beach is a bit of a tourist trap in season... It is quaint and full of Europeans during high season but it still has the charm of a Greek village.

This is a small beach town outside of Chania that is mostly frequented by Europeans. It is quaint and charming and I loved the craziness. It isn't typically Greek but more a fun summer hang. To get from Chania you must either rent a car or take a bus.
