Or go to Nobu on La Cienega. This is the original restaurant Nobu started. The sushi is outstanding.

There is only one thing I highly recommend at this sushi restaurant. And that is the omakase. Expensive but worth it.

Sashimi are very fresh! This is where I would bring guests from out of town to eat sushi.

Hmmm so I heard a lot of good reviews about Matsuhisas before I tried it myself... But honeslty I didn't think it was as great as I expected it to be. We ordered the Omakase (chef's choice) course which comes with 5 small dishes including desert. Yes it is a Japanese restaurant, the portions are small and the point is to enjoy the taste till the end without getting full... but I've had better Japanese food before (well.. I am Japanese...) and I really felt like I ate nothing at the end of the $75 course. Whatever sauce or seasoning they used overkilled the delicate flavor of the core ingredients. I was a bit disappointed :(

However, I cannot give Matsuhisas less than 4 stars because of the presentation. It was art.

The food is awesome. (I don't remember the name but they serve wraps with yellow mustard that are just to die for.) The place is also kind of a celebrities hotspot.

Matsuhisa serves some really delicious sushi and it is no surprise since the chef worked extensively under Nobu. The restaurant feels more authentically Japanese and traditional even though the sushi itself is quite westernized. The service is fast and knowledgeable. One unique element of this restaurant is they have one of those famous Japanese toilets that are worth a visit to the restroom.

Solid. Great Japanese fusion and sushi. Hate to sound racist, but Japanese sushi chefs make a world of difference. Sit at the sushi bar and become a fan.

Love the cuts of toro, maguro, uni, and specials like their jalapeno yellowtail.

The original Nobu is still the best and most low-key of all the restaurants in the nobu empire. Order one of the Omakase, (even the one with the lowest price is amazing), and the house junmai.

My favorite restaurant in LA is Matsuhisa! I order the yellow tail, spicy tuna and toro. I often ask the chefs to prepare something off the menu and they never fail. I also love the fruit saki, it's delish. Great spot to celeb spot, but also intimate enough to take a date.
