A giant 7-pc shirmp tempura bowl for $5.50?! I think yes!
Matsui is a udon/soba restaurant that serves other Japanese dishes such as sushi and rice bowls (beef, tempura, oyako, etc). If I were to rate Matsui simply for their udon & soba, I'd rate them 3 stars because their udon/soba is nothing out of the ordinary, their broth is average, and their meals are over priced. I'd rather spend couple more bucks and eat at Sanuki no Sato.
However, Matsui serves Matsui Bowl which includes 7 piece large shrimp tempura, pumpkin tempura, sweet potato tempura, and carrot tempura on a large bowl of rice. Regular price for Matsui Bowl is usually $12.25 but on 1st and 3rd Tuesday, Matsui serves Matsui Bowl for only $5.50! This deal is only for those who dine-in but wow, the price is unbeatable! It makes it all the more worth it when the shrimp tempura is fried to a nice crisp. Matsui bowl for $5.50 deal is exactly why Matsui bumped up from 3 to 4 stars in my eyes. :) If you're not a big eater, this meal can easily be shared with two people so save yourself the trouble and split a Matsui bowl!
I also like their "fuwa fuwa pudding". It's creamy and super soft. One of the better puddings I've had in my life. Must try!
