Luxury Hotels in Maui

Luxury Hotels in Maui
Families, couples and adventure seekers have been coming to Maui for generations for good reason: the small island is not only filled with dozens of luxury resorts and hotels, but enough high-end restaurants and exciting attractions to keep you busy for weeks. Some of the most ... read more
popular things to do on Maui are to hike the Haleakala volcanic crater, splash under the waterfalls at Hana, laze on the beach (including the famous black sand beaches!) or watch breaching humpback whales just off the coast. Combine your stay with reservations at one of Maui’s finest luxury hotels and you’ve got a travel experience that you won’t soon forget.

Often described as the “Best Ritz in the World,” The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua is one of those spots where elegance and luxury is definitely on the menu, even though it’s classy and quite understated. As spas go, its 17,000+ square-foot spa is nothing short of spectacular, with private relaxation areas that resemble volcanic stone grottos. The treatments are all Hawaiian-inspired and the list of options is massive.

And then there’s the Spa Grande at the Grand Wailea Resort, the largest spa in the state of Hawaii. It appears on Conde Nast’s top 10 spa list with consistency and it’s easy to see why. The spa at this spectacular Maui luxury hotel offers 40 treatment rooms; a wonderful hydrotherapy circuit with waterfalls, Roman tubs, and more; and a luxurious Grand Salon.

If you’re searching for the best of the best while in Maui, you’ll also want a hotel that includes at least one notable upscale restaurant. One of the best in the city is Son’z Maui at the Swan Court in the Hyatt Regency. Artfully-prepared food, combined with a breathtaking location, make this a must-do restaurant for true foodies looking for a luxury dining experience. Another must is Ko at the Fairmount Kea Lani, providing diners with a true island experience that features cuisine with Filipino, Puerto Rican, Portuguese, and Korean influences. Spectacular!

Of course, you’ll want to make sure that you choose a luxury hotel that includes a beach that’ll have you snapping photos left and right. One of the best beaches on the island is Wailea, and the hotels that provide the best access to Wailea are the aptly-named Grand Wailea Resort and the Four Seasons. Each Maui coast hotel offers the ultimate in beachside services, including a wait staff that sees to your every comfort, offering things like chilled towels and the occasional spritz of water.

For golfers who hope to get in a few rounds during their Maui stay, the right choice is undoubtedly the Ritz-Carlton. The resort boasts two superb courses – the Bay Course, designed by Arnold Palmer and Francis Duane, and the Plantation Course, designed by Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore. The latter has been ranked the no. 1 course in Hawaii several times over. The onsite golf academy is also superb.

If golf isn’t your thing but you’re interested in other island adventures, the Hotel Travaasa Hana, a fabulous boutique inn that offers “Hana Experiences” will be the ideal luxury hotel for you. Visitors can partake of activities such as trail rides, glider adventures, throw net fishing, traditional Hawaiian lomilomi massages, and much more. If you prefer something less adventurous, the Hana also has experiences in culinary arts, culture, fitness, and wellness.

Snuck over for the day from the Fairmont. The facility and hotel is amazing, but there were thousands of children that made it a little less enjoyable than the Adults-only pool at the Fairmont.

The Hyatt Regency Hotel has a free parking area if you follow the signs for “Spa Moana / Guest Self Parking”. Go all the way down that driveway and park in one of the Beach Access spaces. We like the very Hawaiian Macy's shop, with extensive ladies swimwear and mens shirts. Be sure to visit the penguins in the lobby ...

We loved it here. We stayed for a week in a one bedroom. It was so nice having a kitchen for breakfast and lunch. The grounds are beautiful, but if you are driving make sure you pay close attention to the directions. There are two Westin resorts very close to one another.

They just finished a room-by-room renovation at the Makena Beach Golf & Resort (in November 2011), and I'm impressed -- soothing, sculptured gold and cream carpet, lush pillowtop beds, comfortable all-new furniture. The sweet oceanfront views are thankfully unchanged. This place is huge -- 1800 acres in all, with two championship-caliber golf courses (one of which is currently closed for ...

This resort is a bit dated, but is the best of the bunch surrounding this location. Whaler's Village is practically next door, and the beaches are fantastic just steps from the property. I have stayed here a few times, and enjoy the full kitchens. It does not have quite as many amenities as a newer resort hotel, but that isn't ...

Next to the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, these villas are a more affordable option for staying inside the peaceful Kapalua resort. Some villas face the golf course, while others have ocean views (book an upgraded "Gold" condo), but all are spacious and like having your own vacation-rental apartment on Maui. Sadly, condo guest no longer get guest privileges next door at the ...
