Didn't get to catch much local scene since it was our first time. Found the portion of the island we were at very touristy but nice. Very clean, safe and relaxing

Maui is so beautiful and so relaxing, away from all the tourist and noise. I love the bright blue waters, palm trees, food and locals.

Super relaxing and low key. I loved being able to just lay on the beach and read a book without a worry in the world

The drive to Hana is absolutely breathtaking, you can swim under waterfalls, hike to the top of a volcano, and enjoy red or even black sand beaches. Maui is paradise.

Maui is an attraction-filled destination that seems like a compilation of Hawaii's best qualities. Surfing beaches? Check. Volcanoes? Several. Family-friendly? Definitely. Posh resorts? Absolutely. The legions of vacationers that come back home teary-eyed and hypnotized can't be wrong -- this is where you learn Hawaii is more than a series of islands, it's also a spiritual experience. Step off the plane, take one whiff of the plumeria blooms and you'll be hooked.

Beautiful Weather there, friendly people. Nice luau, and shops. You can walk outside in the rain which only lasts for 5 minutes. I went para-sailing and loved it. I would like to go back and explore the other islands too.

I vacationed in Maui for a week and loved it there!

It wasn't too crowded, so it was a definite nice getaway.

It was so beautiful there. Try taking the road to Hana or going up to Haleakala to see the sunrise. The beaches are SO clean, and the waters are clear. You don't have to go far out at all to see tropical fish and giant sea turtles swimming with you. Waves are pretty calm if you want to learn how to surf.

Food is good - try going to a luau!

People are friendly and very laid-back.

Weather is perfect in the summer.

Seriously, if you've always thought of Hawaii as a paradise, it's because it IS!

Maui has become an amazing home to me. The island has accepted and embraced me since the day I arrived, and I am eternally grateful for that. I started my own family here and recently bought my own business too. Every time I have considered leaving, the island blesses me with another amazing surprise in my life. Thanks Maui and everyone that is a part of it. And it is ssooo beautiful! I really have no problem driving up, down and all around this island. There is no "better" side, it is all incredible

Our family motto is Maui No Ka Oi, or translated: Maui's the best! It's our go-to place for winter vacation, which, lucky for us, is whale season. We go to chill on the beach, take in the scenery and smell the best-smelling air on earth. Although some complain that Maui has become too commercial for them, it's good for those of us with younger children who find comfort in being able to buy supplies at a regular grocery store or see a doctor that takes our insurance if we end up sick or hurt. There are plenty of places to get way away from it all on Maui--we've seen them ourselves. Hurray for this warm, wonderful place in the Pacific.

Maui is truly a gem to visit. The diversity of landscapes from the lush black sand beaches found in Hana, to the cold slopes of Hale Akala to having cocktails while watching the sunset in Lahaina town, Maui has it all while still retaining the country feel. From sunbathing, snorkeling, whale watching, wind/kitesurfing to traditional surfing, Maui meets any beach lovers needs.

Maui has the best beaches on the south shore, southwest and north shore. Then there's Hana for Wai'anapanapa, Koki Beach and Hamoa. I love Maui.

Absolutley beautiful and is my favorite of the Hawaiian Islands.
Few Tips: 1, the road to Hana will take you about two hours. About half way there is a stand on the side of the road. Take a break and switch drivers there. 2, the best ukuleles are found in a shop on the main street south of the national park on the main road. 4, Front street has some great shopping, but a lot of the stores will be carrying the same things. Keep an eye out for those gems. 5, Do Not go swimming in the ocean after dark. The waves get very iffy and it's hard to tell where they're coming from. 6, yes, it is expensive but see if you can buy pineapples and either carry them onto the plane or have them shipped. The pineapples in Hawaii are the sweetest you will ever taste because they send the smaller and more sour ones off to get canned and sold on the mainland.

Mahalo for reading and have a wonderful time!

Great place to live. If you are looking for a good mixture of rural living with a dash of Hawaiian culture - this is definitely the place. The pace is a good medium between the lifestyle on Oahu and Molokai.

Maui seems to be western Canadians favourite place to go to during the winter months, especially in February when the previous five months of winter have passed but there are at least two more months to go before you can expect to see warmer weather.

The gorgeous beaches, friendly people, lack of language problems, and variety of restaurants make Maui magnificent but I do wish I could stop running into my neighbours. It makes it feel less like a vacation.

Description

A beautiful island in the Hawaiian archipelago and a favorite of paradise-seeking vacationers for years, Maui remains a top destination. The west-facing shores of Maui, sheltered from the tradewinds, are most popular among travelers. In west Maui, the historic port town of Lahaina is the cultural center of the island, with a fantastic selection of shops and restaurants along its main stretch. ... read more
North from Lahaina, Kanapali and Kapalua are resort towns with high-rise hotels stretched along sandy beaches. The south Maui town of Kihei offers some of the nicest snorkeling beaches on the island. If you’re looking to escape the beach, try your luck driving the Hana Highway (its very curvy and therefore not for the weak-of-stomach), or watch the sunrise from atop a volcano in Haleakala National Park. Paia, on Maui’s north shore, is home to Maui’s surf culture as well as fantastic restaurants in a laid back setting. With its varied activities and great beaches, Maui is one of the most hospitable islands in the world.
