If you're looking for a yoga/meditation/spa vacation, Maya Tulum is a solid option. There are two spacious and impressive yoga studios, a vegetarian restaurant, a full wellness center/spa, and nice palapa-roofed cabanas. Different retreats are scheduled year-round with guest teachers; you also can book a Mind, Body, Spirit package instead. I think ala carte yoga also may be purchased if you opt out of a package deal. The only bummer about the place was the beach--a bit rocky and definitely not well tended (there were mounds of seaweed and debris). It didn't remotely appeal to me and I'm a hardcore beach-goer--too many sand flies and the smell of the seaweed was overwhelming. It's too bad, really, since it's Tulum, which is known for its fabulous beaches. I'm hopeful it was just the time of year I went (June)....Recommended for:

A beautiful place to get away and find your balance again. The food is some of the best food I have ever eaten and is complete organic. The spa is fabulous. Try the Mayan mud massage and make sure to hit some yoga & meditation classes.Recommended for:

For me, the main reason to come to Tulum is to enjoy the beach. There are cheaper and more convenient places all up and down the coast, but for the best-of-the-best beaches, Tulum is the spot. So if a Tulum hotel happens NOT to have a good beach, it’s pretty much impossible to recommend. That’s the case with Maya Tulum. When I was there, the huge quantity of seaweed and sea grass washed up on shore (and the flies and stink that invariably come with it) made the beach basically unusable, much less enjoyable. Maya Tulum also happens to be on a rocky outcrop, so much of the shore wasn't beach at all, but sharp rock called ironshore. I don’t think there’s much Maya Tulum can do about the problem; if there was, they surely WOULD. They clearly have a well-regarded yoga program, and the guest rooms are perfectly nice; still, I would be seriously bummed to come to Tulum and discover my hotel beach in that condition.Recommended for:

If you're looking for a Yoga Retreat & Spa on a budget..this is the place. Situated on the ocean, it's quiet & relaxing. No TV, no phone & limited electricity, forces you to rough it. Fish & vegetarian menu & Yoga 2-3x a day. I met the most amazing women at this resort & are still friends. Many hollywooders stay here to escape LA.
